The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2022 (IFFM) has announced the winners of the prestigious awards for its 13th edition after much fanfare. The jury members had a tough time selecting the winners from impressive nominations in films across multiple categories and languages. This year the festival features an impressive array of films, short films and documentaries representing Indian cinema and neighboring countries.
The festival was attended by various dignitaries from the Victorian Government in Melbourne at the prestigious Palais Theatre. Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vaani Kapoor, Kabir Khan, Shefali Shah, Shoojit Sircar, Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Mohit Raina, Sona Mohapatra, many Indian actors and performers were personally part of the celebrations during the festival. , Mini Mathur, Suresh Triveni, former cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev, Vikram Malhotra, Shibasish Sarkar, Sunir Khetarpal among many others. The award night was hosted by Rithvik Dhanjani.
IFFM 2022, Abhishek Bachchan honored with Leadership in Cinema Award, Vaani Kapoor with Disruptor in Cinema Award for her path-breaking performance in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. The team of Jalsa starring Vidya Balan, directed by Suresh Triveni and produced by Vikram Malhotra of Abudantia Entertainment, Shefali Shah was awarded the Equality in Cinema Award. Former Cricketer Shri Kapil Dev was honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Ranveer Singh said after getting the best actor Award for 83, “I thank the jury members at IFFM for awarding me the best actor of the year for my role as Kapil Dev in the film 83, which is one of the most favorite films of my career. Will always be one of the most favorite films of my filmography. But more than praise it is the process of making the film that I cherish the most. I thank Kabir sir for giving me this opportunity, for guiding me and inspiring me. I share this honor with the cast and crew of 83 who are very dear to me, with whom I share a very warm bond and I dedicate this honor to the Devils of Kapil, on whom this The story is based on a good group of gentlemen who dared to dream and their efforts and achievements showed us that we Indians can be the best in the world.”
After winning the Cinema Award, Vaani Kapoor said, “It is a very special and one of a kind Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and Meetu, to recognize a film like this and give so much respect, respect and love and accept it and Chandigarh is a great inclusion. Accepting the Leadership in Cinema Award, Abhishek Bachchan said, “I thank IFFM for giving me the Leadership in Cinema Award, I am extremely excited to be considered for this prestigious award by the Victorian Government and Film Festival. Even though the award is not for Best Actor, I am very sure to come back soon for the Best Actor award at this festival as I am sure I will get it soon.
Led by the director of the film festival Mitu Bhowmik Lange, this year IFFM started from 12-20 August 2022. by the Australian Government. More than 100 critically acclaimed films will be screened at the film festival.
