A Quiet Place Part II (English) Movie Review: A QUIET PLACE PART II is a worthy sequel that stays true to the factors that made its predecessor such a huge success. At the box office the film might face stiff competition.

A Quiet Place Part II (English) Review {3.0/5} and Review Rating

A Quiet Place Part II is the story of a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. After the death of Lee (John Krasinski), his wife Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and their deaf daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds) are able to eliminate the creatures invading their residence. They both move in with Evelyn’s son Marcus (Noah Jupe) and her newborn child as their home is destroyed. They try to find the other survivors and this leads them to a closed area. Evelyn accidentally sets off a sound alarm, while Marcus gets caught in the bear’s trap and the pain forces him to scream out loud. A creature rushes to attack them but is killed as Regan uses his cochlear implant to disorient him while Evelyn fires at the creature. They move into an abandoned steel foundry where an old friend, Emmett (Cillian Murphy), takes them to their soundproof underground hideout. Emmett reveals that he has lost his family, including his wife, in the attack. At the hideout, Marcus learns that the song ‘Beyond the Sea’ is playing on the radio. Emmett says it’s been playing on the radio for four months in a row. Based on Lee’s research, Regan learns that the song is an indication that the survivors are ‘beyond the sea’ on a nearby island. She shares with Marcus her idea that she wants to reach the island and meet the survivors and then plan a way to eliminate the creatures. A scared Marcus asks her to stay there. Regan, however, runs away. Evelyn begs Emmett to find Regan and get him back. What happens next becomes the rest of the film.

The story of Brian Woods and Scott Beck coincides with the first part. Some new characters and elements are introduced and this helps to maintain interest. The screenplay by Brian Woods, Scott Beck and John Krasinski also does justice to the setting and mood of the franchise. However, some plot points are not easy to digest. Also, in terms of novelty, the sequel offers very little and it may not bother a section of fans. Dialogues are conversational. There was hardly any dialogue in the first part but there is a lot in the sequel.

John Krasinski’s direction is brilliant and as good as the first part. The first part proved that he knows his work well. With the sequel, it becomes clear that he also knows how to up the thrill and fear factor. Some scenes are handled exceptionally as expected. But watch out for its expert execution in the first 10-15 minutes; This is one of the first debuts for a horror movie! The second thing is to see how beautifully he uses silence. Horror movies rely on sound but for some scenes of Regan, who is deaf, not a single sound or music is used and yet it creates an effect. On the other hand, he is disappointed with some developments in the script. Some of these plot points are questionable and not entirely convincing. Second, one would have expected that the film would have far more action and adventure and possibly new ways of destroying creatures. In this regard, some may feel lacking as the sequel doesn’t go up a level. NS ‘Brahmastra’ That the Abbott family’s quest to kill the creatures in the first part is paramount throughout the film. However, this bit may also go in favor as the film holds true to the first part. Third, the film has a very late release in India. It was released in the USA on May 28, 2021 and was out on digital on July 13. Hollywood films started releasing in India from 30 July and ideally, A Quiet Place Part II should have hit Indian cinemas in August. It will face the same problem faced by Fast & Furious 9, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Jungle Cruise etc – it has already been viewed on pirated copies by many viewers and hence, its footfall. will be affected.

A Quiet Place Part II begins on a rocking note, showing how the attacks on Earth began. It sends chills down the spine and also makes reference to the supermarket and the space toy that formed a significant part in the earlier film. The attack on the Abbott family outside the foundry drew attention. The attack on Regan inside the train compartment is predictable but it’s a lot of fun nonetheless. The sequence in which the wild humans attack Regan and Emmett delivers a nice blow, but also raises questions about how they managed to survive. Secondly, the way the creature manages to get into the boat and attack the island the next day is very unconvincing as it goes against the creature’s impulsive and reckless personality. The ending is very similar to the first part but the use of parallel tracks is a good idea here. The film ends with a hint that a third part is ready.

Emily Blunt has done a great job once again. But the surprising thing is that in the second half, she was reduced to the back seat. Millicent Simmonds emerges as the best performer and gets maximum screen time. John Krasinski, also the director of the film, appears at the beginning of the film and is great. Noah gives Zoop enabled support. Cillian Murphy’s character is not well defined but gives a decent performance. Djimon Hounsou (the leader of the colony on the island), Okiriot Onaodowan (the cop on Day 1 of the attack) and Wayne Duvall (the grocery store owner) are decent.

The music of Marco Beltrami enhances the effect. Polly Morgan’s cinematography is admirable, especially in the opening scene. Jess Gonchor’s production design is authentic. Kasia Walika-Mamon’s costume is shabby and it works well for the film. The VFX is excellent while the action is a bit bloody but not disturbing. Michael P. Shower’s editing is slick.

Overall, A Quiet PLACE PART II is a worthy sequel that lives up to the factors that made its predecessor such a huge success. At the worldwide box office, it is already one of the biggest hits of the year. But in India, its collections may get affected due to a late release, due to which its pirated prints have been doing the rounds on the internet for a long time.
