Rapper A$AP Rocky has been charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic shotgun, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon announced.
The rapper is accused of firing multiple shots at a former friend in an encounter in Hollywood in November 2021, ‘Deadline’ reports.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious crime that can end with tragic consequences not only for the target person but also for the innocent bystanders who visit Hollywood,” Gascon said in a news release.
“My office did a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that a specific firearm charge needed to be added.”
33-year-old artist A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Meyers, was arrested in connection with the shooting in April 2022. The mayor was returning from a vacation with Rihanna when authorities detained her at Los Angeles International Airport.
“On November 6, 2021, at approximately 10:15 a.m., an argument occurred between two acquaintances in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyll Avenue in the Hollywood area,” read the statement from the Los Angeles Police Department from the time of the apprehension.
“The argument escalated so much that the suspect pointed a pistol at the victim. The victim suffered minor injuries from the incident and later sought treatment. After being shot, the suspect and two other men fled the area on foot. ,
Rapper A$AP Rocky is due to appear on Wednesday and the LAPD will continue to investigate the case.
Back in 2019, A$AP Rocky was convicted of assault in Sweden for a street dispute in Stockholm.
