Review by: Russell D’Silva

Story, released in 2012, became one of the biggest thrillers Bollywood has ever produced, and it is also one of the most unique, with a truly satisfying, original plot, incredible performances. Vidya balan And Nawazuddin Siddiqui, great screenplay and direction, and some of the best cinematography and editing ever seen on film. However, there’s another aspect to the story that made it so iconic: Shashwat Chatterjee’s performance as contract killer Bob Biswas. It’s very rare for an extended cameo to leave such an impression for years to come – honestly, the only other examples that come to mind are Rajesh Khanna Andaz (1971) and Shahrukh Khan In Shakti: The Power (2002). Now, nine years later, comes a spin-off on a cameo role, with Abhishek Bachchan stepping in the name of Bob Biswas. Does the extension prove to be worth your while and does Abhishek make that much impact?

So, are you excited about what to watch this weekend or what to watch this week and wondering if Bob Biswas is worth your time? Scroll down for my full Bob Biswas review…

what’s it about

The Bob Biswas story is set before the events, with Abhishek Bachchan, who steps into the full fledged role of the role, waking up from a coma eight years later, with no memory of his life, the family insists on him, Or shadowy characters chase after him to remind him of his murderous past.

what’s hot

The biggest plus point of Bob Biswas is its supporting cast. From Chirangada Singh and Paran Bandyopadhyay to Samara Tijori, Ronith Arora and Tina Desai topping everyone else, Chitrangada is also flaunting sensuality in her signature way. Speaking of Abhishek Bachchan, the actor completely separates his Bob Biswas from that Shashwat Chatterjee and succeeds for the most part. Diya Annapurna Ghosh makes a confident debut as a director and the production value is also slow, which is expected from a Red Chillies film. Overall Bob Biswas

what is not

There’s a slight problem with the way he comes out and plays Bob, who has transformed himself into a kid who’s lost him, but other than that, you’re just fine with Junior Bachchan in the part. go. Also, despite her convincing directorial debut, Diya Annapurna Ghosh can’t recreate the magic of the story, and she needs to work on getting the pacing right as well. Also, Yasha Ramchandani’s editing drags the film unnecessarily during the middle segment, while Garrick Sarkar’s camerawork misses out on capturing the magic of Kolkata, which always adds another dimension to the film. The background score could have been better.

BL verdict

In short, Bob Biswas is a very compelling original for a cameo that left an indelible impression in the story without even creating the same magic of that character or film. I’m going with 3 out of 5 stars.
