Singer Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to country legend Dolly Parton with an emotional performance of “I’ll Always Love You” at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards.
Hosted by Parton and taking place at Elegant Stadium in Las Vegas, the ACM Awards are streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in a two-hour format with limited commercials, reports Variety.com.
After Kelly Clarkson’s performance, Parton said: “I know Whitney is smiling tonight” and she was backstage “trying not to close my eyelids and kicking snot in every direction.”
Parton last hosted the ACM Awards in 2000, but has since hosted a rival country. music Association award twice. Before the show, she told Variety that she was looking forward to hearing Kelly Clarkson’s spin on her iconic song.
“Can’t wait to sing her,” Parton said of ‘I Will Always Love You’.
“With that voice of hers, it would have to be incredible.”
Parton also said, “I’ve worked in stadiums before. I’ve done this for years. When I worked with Kenny Rogers and some of those guys, we used to work in some of the biggest arenas and stadiums. I never bothered with the size of the crowd.”
