The post-pandemic phase has proved to be a huge setback for Yash Raj Films (YRF). After delivering a blockbuster like warthen a hit Mardaani 2, YRF has not been able to strike the right chord with the audience. It faced a series of flops like Sandeep and pinky absconding, Bunty and Babli 2, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Emperor Prithviraj and now shamshera, While YRF is definitely going through a bad phase, Anurag Kashyap Now taking a dig at the failures said that Aditya Chopra One sits in a cave and instructs the filmmakers to make the film.
Speaking about the reasons for the failure of the Hindi film industry, Anurag, who is promoting his film Dobara, told Galta Plus, “The industry is such that people will continue to walk from all walks of life. Here, cinema is largely Till is controlled by those people, and that to the second generation, who grew up in test rooms. They haven’t lived. So, their reference is to cinema. What’s not on the screen is not cinema to them. The biggest problem with YRF is the trial room effect. You take a story and you want to make a Pirates of the Caribbean out of it and it becomes Thugs of Hindostan. You take a story, and you’re a Mad Max : Want to make Fury Road. This, and it becomes Shamshera. The moment you move in that direction, you are deceiving yourself, especially in today’s times. A Shamshera actually worked two-three years ago Would have done it.”
Talking about the back-to-back failure of YRF, Anurag further added, “You have a man sitting in a cave, who doesn’t know the outside world, deciding that everyone has to take his own life. How to make films and tell them what to do. Obviously, you are digging your own grave. You have to empower people, you can’t dictate terms. That time has now passed. If Aditya Chopra has hired a group of people, so he needs to empower them, not control them, not control. Casting, not controlling everything. Sit in your office, find good people at work Put it on if you trust him, and let him make his movie. What mistake does he make. He doesn’t let them (happen).”
A few days back, Anurag had said that Hindi films don’t have roots because filmmakers are trying to impress by stepping out of their genre, which doesn’t resonate with a large audience. However, he added that if mainstream filmmakers make their own kind of films like Sanjay Leela Bhansaliof Gangubai Kathiawadi and Anees BazmeeOf Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, it will work.
