Lalit Pandit believes that the only real male talent who has emerged as a singer in recent times is Arijit Singh. “The industry badly needed a fresh new voice after the batch of artistes from the 1990s that we had and for a while it looked like we would not have that. But slowly and surely it was the boy who was showing talent and eventually made his way into the industry,” he said.

Lalit recalls his first meeting with Arijit. “I first met Arjit through Mr. Ramesh Taurani. The three youngsters seem to have ended a reality show called (Fame) Gurukul in which Arjit was a winner. Shamit (Tyagi) and Mona (Bhatt) were two more people whom Tips had signed as his artistes to launch with an album. Ramesh ji asked me if I could coach him more and if I could work on about six songs as an album. I agreed and met all three of them Arjit, Shamit and Mona. They looked excited to work together and were very keen to see how the songs were made and how things shaped up musically.
Lalit worked with Arijit on this album for six months. “It was great fun,” he said. “I interacted with him and worked on building this album according to his strengths as a singer. My assistants and I clearly saw Arijit as having a clear edge over the rest and he sang amazingly. that was nice!!”
Lalit said that after that Arijit kept in touch. “Even after the album was finished, Arjit kept coming and helping me with scratches and voice dubbing for a while. I still have some of his scratch recordings that we did together and they sound really great! For this album, Arijit sang his first song for me in a studio. We made it together and since he rehearsed the song for several days, he cracked it well. It was a beautiful song but for some reason the album was never released!! I don’t know why.
After helping Lalit, Arjit moved on. “After assisting me for a while, he moved on and worked and learned with Pritam. This is where he got some really great songs and started making a mark in the industry. He sang songs of different genres and kept on growing and growing. He sang wonderful songs for Mukesh Bhatt and other people interested in music. Arjit’s parents are people of music, he told me once as I asked how he got into music and if there was any family background; was really. His father is Punjabi Sikh and mother Bengali. I believe Arjit’s father sings and he learned music as a child.
What is the specialty of Arijit according to Lalit? “The part that makes Arijit different from others is his expressive voice, singing technique and the riyaz that he has done and worked hard. You may have a God-given voice and everything, but if you haven’t practiced and if you don’t practice, you won’t make it. He has worked very hard and I have seen him struggle. He is very intelligent and humble,” said Lalit.
Lalit is happy with Arijit’s success. “I am extremely happy that she has done well in life with her hard work. Her voice really has a mesmerizing effect on her audience and gets tremendous likes and love from the youth. Both my sons love her singing. I have noticed this after the huge success of his concerts in which he has excelled. A lot of singers have become aware as it always happens when a young talent like Arijit comes to the fore. I recently performed in Pune Saw his concert and I must say he is a performer par excellence and has a right approach to take Indian performing arts to a different level.He is an all rounder, composer, singer, technician and programmer, musician Being, makes sense to execute a live concert! None of his seniors have nor will he as the grooming has been different! He has learned a lot and put in his blood, sweat and tears for his work His combination with Priyam and Mithun has been tremendous. On his birthday, I wish him a very bright future and happiness always,” signed off Lalit.
