Prateek Gandhi‘Srikanth’ (aka Shree) is a troublesome a**hole who takes his 4-year relationship with Sharmin Sehgal’s ‘Netra’ lightly and spins like the Ricky Gervais Tony of Afterlife. Shree is a standup comedian, and Netra is an air hostess (one and only to support a joke) and they both can neither fly away nor laugh at each other.
After fighting for some non-existent (like the story in this film) issues, Shree decides to drink extra upon seeing a ghost who introduces himself as his grandson Makhan Singh (Jackie Shroff). Yes, Shri meets his grandson from a past life in the form of a ghost who wants to be reunited with his old love Manju and at the same time wants to teach his grandfather how pure love is.
Atithi Bhooto Bhava Movie Review: Script Analysis
If you have two characters: one is young and dumb, the other is old and wise, you use your elderly character to tell your love story from the past to help the boy realize what is missing in life without love Yes, you can make one of our all time favorite rom-coms with Love Aaj Kal. But, if you are someone who takes the above equation, and makes the old man not only a ghost, but also the young man’s grandson from his past life to understand the same thing, then my friend, you should get your chain off. Think right there and cross-check if you’re thinking straight.
But, that didn’t happen and here we get a story of Shreyas Anil Lovelekar, Pradeep Srivastava and Aniket Wakchaure which is lacking in ‘Love, Aaj Aur Kal’. The story doesn’t get absurd every minute, it gets weird all at once and then goes on until the last minute without any revival. Madhu Vanier’s camerawork follows every basic trick in the book to keep things simple, which isn’t a bad thing amidst all the chaos happening in the story and execution department.
Atithi Bhooto Bhava Movie Review: Star Performance
Back in 2020, Prateek Gandhi grabbed everyone’s attention by doing the biggest thing scam of his life (scam 1992) and cut to 2022, should be called the biggest cinematic scam when it comes to stealing entertainment. That’s exactly what happens with talented actors like him, initially, when they decide to make their presence felt in the industry and there really isn’t much out there (in terms of quality content). It should have been as good for anyone from the scripting stage as it was for him. He still chose to do it, tried and failed.
It’s always nice to see Jackie Shroff doing films and being livewired at the age of 65, but projects like this don’t fit the blueprint of how he would really like to see his second innings. Rishi Kapoor did that brilliantly and I think Jackie Dada should watch the following films which bring out the best in him.
After Malaal, I had high hopes from Sharmin Sehgal but this film didn’t even come close to what she could have done. His first film teased his caliber, wanted him to blow it fast in his second film, but no, it’s not. Divya Thakur has extended her hand which is not really helpful in the supporting cast. Blame it on the script as all the above actors could have done very well if they were put in a good film.
Atithi Bhooto Bhava Movie Review: Direction, Music
The story begins with its lead Shree showing off his ‘MCP’ qualities and then director Hardik Gajjar tries to give the film a Seinfeld-like vibe, the central character of which is a comedian doing stand-up talks about his life. And I was all set with this idea until I realized that ‘Bhooto’ (titled) was yet to be introduced. Hardik’s direction isn’t really a problem compared to the mess done by the story department. Hardik can monitor a good film with his skill but not with this kind of script.
The songs are s*it, the background score leaves no impact.
Atithi Bhooto Bhava Movie Review: The Last Word
All said and done, the makers thought it would be a fun experimental horror, but it is neither fun nor experimenting with any horror or comedy. A lame and easy attempt to avoid!
One and a half stars!
