Amidst the closure of theaters and the postponement of our favorite upcoming films again, we forgot to talk about one of the smartest decisions taken by the makers of Akshay Kumar’s Atrangi Re. November 5 was certainly the day the industry breathed a sigh of relief with Kumar’s Sooryavanshi opening in large numbers.

Almost crossing a double century at the box office, Rohit Shetty’s action came as a ray of hope for many producers. Its box office run prompted many filmmakers to bring their finished products to the cinema halls. But, among all those people, it was one director who decided to swim against the tide and stick to OTT.

We know you’ve already read the title and know what we’re talking about Anand L RaoI am Atrangi Ray. The movie had every material to go to the cinema hall. A love triangle, three famous actors, the writer-director duo behind many successful films and AR RahmaniMusic album of.

It could have easily tempted any other director for theatrical release and the success of Akshay Kumar’s last outing was more than a cherry on the cake. But, the makers of Atrangi Re chose to stay away from cinema halls and this could be the smartest move to help the film reach.

Led by Sara Ali Khan, Dhanush and backed beautifully by Akshay Kumar, the film throws light on the extreme stage of a character’s life after witnessing PTSD. This is, of course, a sensitive topic to talk about and not many people would engage with its intensity on the same level. It shouldn’t have had a unanimous crowd-pleaser because of its handling of the subject, and that’s totally fine.

Even films like 83 made purely for cinema halls struggled to make their mark at the box office. Between Spider-Man: No Way Home and the chaos created by Pushpa, it is really difficult for any film to withstand the pressure of the box office. Taking Atrangi Re on OTT has proved to be a better option for the makers, which was going against the view of many who were anticipating its theatrical release.
