‘Batman Azteca’: HBO Max Orders Animated Feature Set In Mexico

Batman is going to Mexico.

hbo max Latin America has ordered an original animated feature-length film that stars the DC Comics character South of the Border.

Streamer will launch The Dark Knight’s story batman aztec: Choc de Imperios (Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires), The news was unveiled at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

The animated feature comes from Warner Bros. Animation and DC in partnership with Anima and Chatron.

In the time of the Aztec Empire, Yohuali Cotal – a young Aztec boy – experiences tragedy when his father and village leader, Toltecatzin, is murdered by the Spanish Conquistadors. The Yohuali flees to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest Yoka of the impending danger. Using the temple of Tzinakan, the bat god, as a lair, Yohulli trains with his mentor and assistant, Ekatzin, develops tools and weapons to withstand the Spaniard invasion, protects Moctezuma’s temple and avenges his father’s death.

Juan Meja-Leon (Harley QuinnJose C. García de Letona, Aaron D. Berger, Carina Schultz and Fernando de Fuentes act as producers of the film, which will be produced entirely in Mexico, showcasing local talent, and the region. Will show off a great deal of art. Sam Register and Tomas Yankleevich serve as executive producers.

Alejandro Díaz Barriga, a consultant specializing in Mesoamerican studies and the ethnic history of Mexico and the Andean region, will work with the creative team to ensure that the indigenous representation depicted in the film is appropriate and relevant.
