amanda beersey (married with Children) has found one of the first roles in the newly rebooted screen career universal Photo History Rom-Com BrothersâThe first studio film to feature an entirely LGBTQ+ lead cast, with queer actors playing queer roles, plus all heterosexual characters.
She joins an all-star ensemble led by Billy Eichner and Luke MacFarlane, which also stars TS Madison, Miss Lawrence, Simone, Guillermo Diaz, and Guy Branum.
Brothers Billed as a smart, jarring, and heartfelt comedy about two gay men â played by Eichner and MacFarlane â stumbling toward love, maybe, maybe, maybeâ¦ . They are both very busy.
Byers will portray the mother of MacFarlane’s character.
Nicholas Stoller is directing from a script he co-wrote with Eichner. Judd Apatow is producing alongside Stoller and Josh Church, as well as Eicher Execution Production. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production Eric Byers will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. The film is a co-production of Stoller’s Global Solutions and Apatow’s Apatow Productions, and is scheduled to hit theaters on August 12, 2022.
âI am delighted to be a part of this project. I had no idea how deep the LGBTQ roots were going to be on this project [until recently]. But leave it to Billy Eichner; I shouldn’t expect anything less,” Byers tells Deadline. “She’s just so cutting edge, and so will this film. I’m delighted to be invited to the party.”
Byers is perhaps best known on the acting side, for her breakout role as The Bandits’ neighbor Mercy D’Arcy on the Fox sitcom married with Children. While working on that show in 1993, she became the first actress to publicly come out as a lesbian on primetime television.
Byers is also known for a recurring role on TV all my Children, with guest starring roles anger management, very beautiful and other series. She appeared on the film side in Tom Holland’s 1985 horror classic fright NightMILF Greg Araki doom generation even more.
The actress first got to know Brothers, As well as tapavingoâDirector Dylan K. An upcoming comedy by Narang, in which she will star alongside John Heder before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Before embarking on these projects, she put acting on hold for nearly 25 years, to raise her daughter as a single parent and begin her career in directing.
Byers knew in the ’90s that he had to commit wholeheartedly to directing in a bid to “take it seriously” when “there weren’t a lot of women behind television cameras.” She went on to find great success in that pursuit, directing 31 episodes. married with Children, as well as on such series The Jamie Foxx Show, Dharma and Greg, reba, MADTV And Big Gay Sketch Show.
After her daughter grew up, leaving her an “empty nest,” she decided to take root in the SoCal arena for the first time in two decadesâthen the idea of ââreuniting with the craft of acting came around. “I thought, well, maybe, I’ll just give it a try and see what happens, and as long as it stays fun and exciting, I’ll stick with it. I’m enjoying acting again. It’s been such a long time really, and I didn’t know how much I missed it,” shared the actress. “So, it’s a great new start right now, really the best way to put it.”
