Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Benedict Cumberbatch REACTS to his film being banned in Saudi Arabia

Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is all set to release on May 6, 2022. The film has been in the news for being banned in Saudi Arabia as they are not inclined to release the film with LGBTQ references in it. Talking to the news agency AFP a few days ago, Nawaf Alsbhan, general supervisor of cinema classification of Saudi Arabia, said, ‘It will never be banned. There is no reason to ban the film. It’s a simple edit…so far they have refused. But we haven’t closed the door. We’re still trying.” Also read- Sarkaru Vari Paata: Trailer Shots of Mahesh Babu Starring Movie Leaked; Superstar fans are worried – read tweets

Recently while talking to PA News Agency, Benedict CumberbatchThe one who played the lead role in the film reacted to being banned in Saudi Arabia. He said, “It’s hard not to be sentimental about it, to be honest. But it is, I’m afraid, an expected disappointment. We learned from those oppressive regimes that their lack of tolerance is ostracized for those who are not only are worthy of being included but celebrated for what they are, and to be felt part of a society and culture and not punished for their sexuality.” Also read- Naagin 6, May 1 written update: Rishabh aka Simmba Nagpal kidnapped; Pratha aka Tejaswi Prakash has set out to save her

Talking further about the gay character in the film, Cumberbatch said, “We included her because of how fabulous she is as a character. And (her sexuality) is just one aspect of her character. And that’s it. That’s all. We still have to fight, we still have to push for inclusion and equality and I’m very happy in a small way but on a much bigger canvas, Marvel and Disney are doing that.” Also read- Kathu Vakula Rendu Kaadhal: Director Vignesh Shivan opens up about criticism of the film starring Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu
