‘Downton Abbey’ Star Michelle Dockery To Lead Steven Knight BBC Drama ‘This Town’

Downton Abbey Star Michelle Dockery to lead peaky blinders creator steven knightpersonal drama of this town for BBC.

Knight’s six-parter has cameras rolling in Birmingham and features a cast of other British actors including Nicholas Pinnock (Marcella) and David Dawson (my policeman),

previously called two notes, The show tells the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two-tone music, coming from the grass roots scene of Coventry and Birmingham in the late 70s and early 80s. Fiercely unites Black, White and Asian youth.

Universal Music Group’s Mercury Studios is a co-producer and will “bring in an exciting array of high profile musical artists to help create the backdrop for Knight’s incredible story”, according to the BBC. Mercury is co-producing with Banijay backed Kudos and Nebulastar in association with Kudos North, Stigma Films and Nick Angel.

“It’s a project very close to my heart,” said Vipul Knight, whose war drama SAS: Rogue Heroes Currently airing on BBC One.

“It is about an era I have lived through and know well and it features characters I feel I have grown up with. It’s a love letter to Birmingham and Coventry but I hope people around the world will be able to relate to it.”

Knight is the creator, writer and executive producer along with Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Katie McAleese, Joe McLellan, Laura Conway, Matthew James Wilkinson and Nick Angell. Paul Whittington is the director, Charlotte Surtees is the producer and Banijay Rights is distributing internationally.
