dwayne johnson Fighting battles just like his superhero character black adam, The Rock would join the DC universe in a feature film revolving around the antihero and it was this actor who struggled to give his character his original film.
“When the first draft of the film came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and shazam: two origin stories in one movie,” Johnson recounted Vanity Fair, “Now that was the goal, so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read it, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make a movie like this. We’re doing Black Adam an incredible absurdity. Must have been.’ It would have been fine for Shazam that the two origin stories meet in one movie, but it doesn’t bode well for Black Adam.”
Johnson would then talk to studio executives to express their opinion on breaking up the characters in their films and reimagining them in a potential showdown down the road.
“I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here. It’s so unpopular’ because everyone thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think you should make Shazam!, Make that movie automatically in the tone you want. And I think we should separate that too.'”
In the end, Johnson won, and both Shazam! and Black Adam, are their standalone movies and will give fans what they want.
Warner Bros. is ready to release black adam In cinemas on 21 October 2022.
