Unique: Mind Riot Entertainment Will work with journalists, game developers and computer programmers Brianna Wu For gamergate, a series about his experience as a critic and the target of the infamous 2014 online harassment campaign, for which the studio opted for rights to life.
The 2014 GamerGate Online campaign targeting women in the gaming industry ignited a firestorm that laid the foundation for current issues of propaganda and hate. Before QAnon, in the Covid-19 conspirators and the January 6 uprising, there was Gamergate. Wu was among the women targeted, which also included Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian.
The series will explore the origins of the widespread intimidation campaign from the perspective of many, fictional people in the games industry – from executives to journalists and indie developers.
gamergate Wu and J. is co-produced and co-written by Brad Wilke (camel spiders), and will be produced by Jonathan Casey of Mind Rite Entertainment (parallel) and Jeremy J. Dodd (a nation under the early)
In 2014, personal attacks forced Wu and her husband to flee their Boston home in the wake of online death threats, resulting in female game developers, journalists and players being targeted online by violent and sexist attacks via social media. As a result of efforts to support and message boards.
Subsequently, Wu ran for Congress in 2018, representing women in tech. Wu has shared his story in several publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian. His experience with other GamerGate targets has been addressed in several television and film projects, including the 2015 documentary GTFO and episode of “Scare Games” Law & Order: SVU.
“We are not going to reread the same story told in thousands of news stories from outlets such as the New York Times and Washington Post, as well as many documentaries such as GTFO. Our series will focus on new, fictional people within an industry reacting to a catastrophic situation. By explaining how they were unable to stop the video game industry from being hijacked by the crazy fringe – we can show how GamerGate’s strategy was what led to tragedies like Christchurch and January 6th,” Wu said.
Casey said: “Working with Brian is a huge score for us. Based in Seattle, one of the country’s mecca for gaming, we’ve wanted to shine a light on this topic for some time and are honored to have worked with Brian Brad. Will co-write the series.
