Jaya Bachchan recalls changing sanitary pads behind bushes on outdoor shoots

And now Jaya has recalled her embarrassing experience of changing sanitary pads behind bushes while shooting for outdoor projects.

In her latest episode titled Biology: Blessed But Biased, Navya has a candid discussion with her mother and grandmother about periods and fertility. When Navya asked her about her first period experience, Jaya said that she used to have a lot of problems during work. The veteran actress shared her ordeal about how she struggled to change pads on the sets. He also talked about the lack of basic amenities like toilets in the early years of his acting career.

“It was horrible (getting periods while shooting). When we used to shoot outdoors, we didn’t have vanity vans, we had to change behind bushes… It’s crazy. There weren’t even enough toilets, you had to go to a field or the top of a mountain. It was awkward, it was embarrassing,” Jaya said.

She then apologized for being ‘too graphic’, saying that she would use plastic bags to throw away her sanitary pads and take them home to put them away. She revealed that when she was younger, she used to use sanitary towels and they would tie her with a belt or tape. Shweta also recalled her experience and said that during her periods she used to just lie in bed and eat chocolates alone.

The show aims to create a safe space for women across all age groups with the hosts representing three generations and bringing different perspectives. Jaya Bachchan feels that the conversation around women is changing very slowly. “It should have been in the headlines today,” she said. Navya feels that women’s healthcare platforms run by men are quite ironic.
