The Kannada film Kantara, which released in September, took the box office by storm and got the cash registers ringing. The thriller went on to become the second highest grossing Kannada film of all time, as well as the second highest grossing Kannada film of 2022.
After a successful run in theatres, Rishabh Shetty’s film ran into controversy after its OTT release. Kerala-based band Thakkudam Bridge recently alleged that the song used in the Kannada film Varaha Roopam was a copy of their song, Navarasam, and sought legal action against Amazon Prime.
Back in October, Thakkudum Bridge took to social media and shared a statement that read, “We want our listeners to know that Thakkudum Bridge is not affiliated in any way with or Kantara. Our IP in terms of audio The inescapable similarities between Navarasam and Varaha Roopam are therefore a gross violation of copyright laws.
It also added, “From our point of view the line between Inspired and Plagiarism is distinct and undeniable, and hence, we will be seeking legal action against the creative team responsible for the same. There is no acknowledgment of our rights on the content and the song has been promoted as an original work by the creative team of the film.
After the legal action taken by Thakkudham Bridge, amazon prime Removed the song from the movie Kantara. The former also took to his social media handle to share an update stating that the OTT platform has removed the song from the film. “Amazon Prime has removed the literary version of our song Navarasam from the film Kantara.
