Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has discussed what is a pan-India film with his thoughts on South Indian cinema, especially Telugu films.
Karan admits that even Hindi films are not doing as much business as Telugu films in recent times. He also cited the example of Allu Arjun’s recently released film ‘Pushpa’ to explain the commercial stamina of Telugu films.
“Without any publicity, Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa’ was released with only a few posters and trailers. Even though Allu Arjun is known in the North, the film earned a lot at the box office. Can you imagine the scenario? Now, it is called a ‘pan-India craze’,” said Bollywood director Karan Johar.
Karan said the entire terminology of a ‘pan-Indian film’ begins with SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’. He said that ‘Bahubali 1’ did business Rs 112 croreWhereas Rajamouli’s previous film ‘Makki’ earned only Rs 1 crore in the Hindi belt.
Karan Johar had also predicted that Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus ‘RRR’ is going to be one of the biggest openers and may collect 30 crores The first day of its Hindi version in India alone.
