Karan Johar reveals why he chose to become a single parent: ‘Mere zindagi mein pyaar nahi hai toh main…’

Karan Johar In 2017 welcomed two children, twins Yash and Roohi, via surrogacy. In February, their children turned 5 and it has been a difficult and scary experience for the filmmaker to be a single parent. In a new interview, Karan was asked if he chose to be a single parent due to lack of romance or no partner in life. He said that despite many of my people being told to avoid being a single parent, he listened to his heart. “I guess, they all thought maybe it was too much for me to handle, given my schedule. I don’t think they were saying it for social reasons. But, all I knew was that I was a parent.” I just knew I was ready to give a piece of my heart. And that’s what I’ve done with my two kids. I think a big piece of my heart is they and my heart One big piece is my mom. And I feel like that love part is satisfied,” Karan told Bollywood Bubble. When Karan was asked if the absence of a life partner made him feel the desire to become a single parent, he said, “When you are emotionally ready you will know that you want to be a parent. The two are not related to each other. All. It is not that there is no love in my life, toh main bachay le aaunga (It is not because there is no love in my life, I should have children). Earlier, Karan talked about the challenges of being a father. “Being a single parent is really tough and scary. Because I think it takes a mother and a father to complete the upbringing of a child. In many ways, you can say that Yash and Roohi’s Being is full of love but it’s also a selfish decision. It’s because I want that love for myself. There was a huge empty space in my life that needed to be filled by kids,” he told Film Companion was.
