He talked about doing comic roles and its challenges, his current shows and his return to the small screen after doing films.

Vishwanath Chatterjee has been doing comedy in films and TV. Asked whether this genre appeals to him the most or is he most comfortable with making others laugh, he said: “As an actor, I prefer to experiment rather than stick to one genre. I have really enjoyed playing comic roles in my career. Making the audience laugh is the toughest job for any performer and I am glad I could do it. In my shows, I do situational and light-hearted humour, which instantly connects me with the audience.

“I enjoy doing it too. But I would still like to play some serious character, especially a negative character. I want to play a well-drawn character who leaves a mark. It doesn’t matter if it’s a lead role. or a supporting role if it is interesting, provides variety and is entertaining,” he said.

Talking about his character and what makes it entertaining for the audience, Vishwanath Chatterjee said: “I am overwhelmed with the audience response to my character, Benny, and I would like to thank him for showering so much love on me. Can’t thank you enough. Whenever Happu, his friend and brother-in-law come to Beni with their problems, he is appreciated. He stands by her in all her problems, but sometimes he also becomes the cause of the problem. The tragedies that Happu and Beni face, and their hilarious get-ups keep the viewers hooked to our show.

About his bond with his on-screen friend Happu, played by Yogesh Tripathi, he shared: “It’s been four years since we played onscreen friends. We are like a family now. Most of my scenes in the show are with her and we spent a lot of time shooting her. Even when we are not on stage, we sit together, crack jokes and laugh heartily. We keep pulling each other’s legs during rehearsals, which is fun.

He has been a part of many films, however, for him the content matters more than the medium. Thus, when he got good roles on TV, he decided to say yes to them.

“As an actor, I yearn for good work, be it any platform. my friend Kavita Kaushik Shared my contact details with director Shashank Bali for one of his shows where I played episodic characters. He was very impressed with my acting abilities, but I never thought that my relationship with him would last this long. They told me that they are planning to make ‘Happu Ki Ultan Paltan’ and wanted me to be cast as Happu’s lawyer friend. I immediately said yes,” the hide and seek Actor wraps up.
