‘Monarch’ starring Anna Friel, Trace Adkins, Susan Sarandon, Joshua Sasse and Beth Ditto will not return for a second season. The season 1 finale aired on 6 December.
The drama opened after an NFL doubleheader, debuting with a 0.8 rating among adults 18–49 and 3.8 million total viewers, becoming the most watched fall scripted premiere in three years. As Variety reports, Monarch failed to resonate with its 4.1 million multi-platform audience with an average of 4.1 million viewers over 11 episodes.
The musical series, created by Melissa London Hilfers, was produced during the Covid-19 pandemic and was originally set to premiere in January 2022. Designed for a short run, it was then pushed to the decline.

Over the course of the season, her husband Alby (Adkins) attempts to keep Monarch’s business afloat with the help of their two daughters and son, who are all hiding secrets of their own.
music was a huge component of the series, including new songs including Lizzo’s “Juice,” Faith Hill’s “Breathe,” Leanne Rimes’ “How Do I Live,” Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph,” Harry Styles’ “Watermelon,” and included covers of both old hits. Sugar’ and, in the final episode, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’.
After the debut music supervisor Amanda Craig Thomas told Variety: “It’s a great mix of songs – there’s classics to be rediscovered, current hits and artists you’ve never heard of but want on your playlist after the show.” Will join.
