Miss Marvel is the newest superhero venture that is leaving the world very interesting and invested. If you’re a fan of the MCU, you probably already know that the series has one of the most reclusive superhero characters ever. However, did you know that Never Have I Ever fame actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was the popular choice for the role before Iman Velani was finalized?

As for Unverse, the series debuted in the second week of June and is enjoying positive reviews so far. It is created by Bisha K Ali and stars actors like Aramis Knight and Matt Lintz. Bollywood Actor Farhan Akhtar also has a pivotal role in the film as its plot is set in South Asia.

Before the actor was finalized for Ms. Marvel’s main character, Kamala Khan, most rumors suggested that Maitreyi Ramakrishnan would play the role. When asked about this in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, she flatly denied the speculations, clarifying why she doesn’t want to play a Pakistani character.

“I’ve seen a few posts about it, but honestly, no. Kamala Khan is Pakistani and I am Tamil. If there were a Tamil superhero, I wouldn’t want to see a Pakistani girl play [her], I’d say, ‘Really? You didn’t find any Tamil?’ So why would I want to do this to the Pakistani community? It would not be fair”, said Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

Speaking about how happy she would be to be a part of Marvel, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan said, “Trust me, I would love to be a superhero. I love Marvel. I could be the daughter of Deadpool or his apprentice or something. Maybe Deadpool adopts a South Asian girl. It makes sense — Ryan Reynolds and I would both make Canadian jokes.”
