Netflix Live sports may not be in business but it certainly makes viewers want to know that there is some content around the edges.
The streamer has debuted a new teaser that highlights his sportsmanship with shows like Formula 1: Drive to Survive and its upcoming documentary on Celtics Star Bill Russell: Legend.
“We got GOATs,” it notes of the trailer. “The biggest sports stories are coming to Netflix.”
It has launched the trailer online and will also air during the season-opening NBA game tonight. The LA Lakers face the Golden State Warriors, while the Philadelphia 76ers face the Boston Celtics.
Elsewhere, Netflix has a second season of the documentary series and Last Chance You: Basketball, after PGA Tour Golf, which launches on December 13.
This is on top of the shows already on the stage which include The Redeem Team, Untold, Naomo Osaka, Neymar: The Perfect Chaos And cheer.
Netflix has long been asked whether it will move into live sports as its streaming rivals such as Amazon, which now has Thursday Night Football, and Apple, which has deals with MLB and MLS, moved into the space. Huh.
In April, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed what it would take to make it happen.
“I’m not saying we’ll never play, but we have to see a way to grow a huge revenue stream and with it a great profit stream,” he said.
The comments came after his other co-CEO Reid Hastings told German newspaper Der Spiegel that he would consider buying the rights to F1.
