Nirvana, The Supremes, Nile Rodgers, Ma Rainey, Slick Rick Among 2023 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Honorees

Recording Academy announces its 2023 Grammys lifetime Achievement Award recipient today, with Bobby McFerrin, nirvanaMa Rainey, Nile Rodgers, clever rick “ruler,” TopAnd Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Hart are making the cut.

Lifetime awards were among the honorees announced today by the Academy to be presented at the Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards ceremony. Grammy Awards, In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Awards, today’s announcement includes the recipients of the Trustees Award, the Technical Grammy Award, and the Best Song for Social Change Award.

Other honorees announced today are Trustees Award recipients, which this year include music photographer Henry Diltz, jazz pianist and music educator Alice Marsalis and Stax Records founder Jim Stewart.

Posthumously receiving the award is Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain; Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard of the original Supremes line-up; Rainey; Marsalis; and Stewart.

In addition, this year’s Technical Grammy Award honorees are The Audio Engineering Society, the only professional society dedicated exclusively to advancing audio technology; and Dr. Andy Hildebrand, creator of the groundbreaking Auto-Tune software program.

The award for Best Song for Social Change will be announced later.
