Legendary Indian actor, producer and director Raj Kapoor is regarded as one of the greatest showmen in the history of Hindi cinema. He went on to become a prominent actor and director, producing some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema, such as Bobby, Mr. 420 And Rogue, among others. Recently, the yesteryear star has been in the limelight as a petition seeking ownership of veteran actor Raj Kapoor’s mansion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to PTI, the Peshawar High Court has rejected a petition in the latest development.
Pakistani court dismisses dispute over ownership of Raj Kapoor mansion
In 2016, the provincial government declared the mansion, once owned by Raj Kapoor’s family, a national heritage site. Recently, a bench of Justices Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Abdul Shakoor dismissed a case related to the acquisition process of the mansion. The judges referred to a previous ruling in a similar case related to Dilip Kumar Haveli, another historical property located in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar and declared a national heritage site by the federal government.
In court, the Additional Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province acknowledged that Kapoor Haveli was accepted as a national heritage site by the provincial archeology department in 2016. Despite this confirmation, Justice Shakur expressed doubt on the department’s claim and requested evidence to support the Kapoor family’s ownership or residence in the mansion.
The petitioner, Sayeed Muhammad, protested, stating that his father had successfully bid for the mansion in 1969 and retained full ownership until the provincial government initiated the acquisition process. Furthermore, he argued that there is no evidence that the Kapoor family ever owned or resided in the property.
