Two Aanand L Rai films in one year? (Yes, I’m counting from December to December). Well, the pandemic has indeed changed a lot and the uncertainty has hit us all fast. But is it good in all respects? Only the release of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s latest film Raksha Bandhan will tell. The makers have now released the trailer of the much-awaited film, and one thing is for sure that the vibrant vibe that Rai brings to his cinema is unparalleled and cannot be mirrored.

Partnering with power-writer duo and longtime confidante Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, Anand is after a satisfyingly beautiful fairy-tale (Atrangi Re!) joins the saga of a family’s demography and marriage in a small town in India. Raksha Bandhan stars Akshay Kumar as a brother to 4 sisters and is also a parent to them, the story of the hardships he goes through to get them married. Because he had made such a promise to their mother.

Well, the long trailer of 2 minutes 53 seconds takes you through the lives, struggles and struggles of the people involved. While it all looks amusing and like Anand-Himanshu-Kanika’s previous collaborations have also punched that ground, the uncertain bone is with Akshay Kumar. The actor is currently shooting for films every fortnight and doesn’t invest much in creating a character. Raksha Bandhan has a mix and match of his previous character and looks like a recurring Kumar from the past. I hope he doesn’t do to it the same way he did to Atrangi Re.

Not much has been given to Bhumi Pednekar in the trailer. But knowing their love for the making of Rai and Kanika and their female characters, there is definitely a side that seems to be left for the big screen. The music is by Himesh Reshammiya and it has an old-fashioned ambiance. But let’s not forget that he last composed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo songs and I am not a fan of that album at all. Please do good Himesh, the last Rai album was a prolific AR Rahman Ratna.

Emotions, colors, emotions in all, never wrong Seema Pahwa, and the Aanand L Rai vibe we all crave. But there are also things that can drag everything down and my fingers are already crossed.
