Randeep Hooda believes that his intense love for his work has helped him overcome any physical or psychological setbacks he has experienced in life. After battling a knee ailment for several years, which also delayed film projects, Randeep persevered against all odds and is now all set to make a comeback. Randeep Hooda on Swatantra Veer Savarkar – “This is my first film as a director, writer and producer but I am fearless about it”
The actor recently opened up about the film before heading to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to resume the filming of the film. He has lost significant weight to play the title role of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. It is interesting to note that Randeep is also directing and producing for the first time and has decided to expand his role beyond that of an actor with this project.
speaking about playing multiple roles for Swatantra Veer SavarkarRandeep said, ‘I work better in isolation, but you can do that only as an actor or writer, not as a director. It’s like I was an individual tennis player before, and then they put me on a soccer team and made me the captain, and now I have to play tennis individually with all the players! Swapping the roles of a director, writer and producer is a great lesson in people management because acting is very individualistic”.
Elaborating on the making and research of the film, he said,Savarkar This is my first film as a director, writer and producer. I’m being fearless about it. Before starting research on Savarkar, I did not know much about him. Most of the books devote only two paragraphs to the armed revolution, which was also a part of our freedom struggle. Through extensive research we will show in the film what was his real contribution. I am also making this film to connect with today’s youth.
It took a few months for Randeep to make a comeback from injury, but he said he is in no mood to slow down. Recalling that incident, he said, “I was down 22 kgs, for about eight months during the preparation of Savarkar, I weighed 68 kgs. After the injury, I am 71 kgs now and I need to lose weight again as we resume shooting as there has to be continuity. With age, all of this of course gets tougher.
