Indian Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur interacted with actor Ranveer Singh on the “global reach of the Indian media and entertainment industry” at the India Pavilion at the Dubai Expo on Monday, the third day of his Dubai visit.
Thakur said that Indians living in Dubai are the real brand ambassadors of India. He also said that the India Pavilion has been a huge crowd puller with 17 lakh visitors, adding that the country is celebrating 75 years of India’s independence and celebrations are taking place not only in India but also abroad.
Acknowledging the contribution of films to India’s soft power projection, Thakur said that India is a land of storytelling and the film industry has left a great influence on people from abroad who identify with India for their films.
“Our aim is to make India the material subcontinent of the world. This can create millions of jobs in India and help create content for the entire world.”
Ranveer He said that Indian content is on the verge of making its presence felt on the world stage.
“Indian entertainment is going to explode globally. Our stories resonate with people and cross cultural boundaries and connect with India through Indian films abroad,” he said.
Earlier during the day, Thakur discussed with Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, various strategies adopted by Dubai with regard to the tourism sector to make it a preferred tourist destination for the world. During the meeting, he lauded Dubai for organizing the expo, which has been a huge success despite the pandemic.
Kazim highlighted that India has immense potential for tourism. He said that India can utilize the unique aspects of major cities and states and focus on their strengths. “In addition, India’s IT talent benefits the global industry which can be promoted as a force to be reckoned with,” he said.
Thakur invited Kazim to visit India to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the tourism and media and entertainment sectors.
