The pandemic has already proved how severely it has affected the film industry and it seems that the new Omicron version is posing a major threat to the box office collections. As several big budget projects are slated to release in the next few weeks, the newly imposed COVID restrictions in metro cities are causing concern for the makers. Magnum opus RRR seems to be the latest film to face the heat and look at alternate options for good earnings.
As for the Unverse, the upcoming action-drama film is slated to release on January 7, 2022. The film stars Bollywood actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles. Alia Bhatt, It is directed by SS Rajamouli, who has a reputation for creating larger-than-life movie experiences with classics like Baahubali.
According to a recent report by IWMBuzz.com, the film may take a hybrid route by simultaneously releasing the film on the OTT platform as well as releasing the film in theatres. However, the film will follow pay per view scheme where people will have to pay a certain amount to watch it at home. Tickets will reportedly cost between ₹400-700.
An IWMBuzz close to the development revealed, “Considering the current situation, there doesn’t seem to be an option. After the night curfew in Maharashtra, Delhi and several other states, the film-theater business is again badly hit. Has happened, very tough indeed. Kabir Khan’s non-performance of 83 has rocked the Hindi film industry. RRR is the toughest”.
First, Salman Khan’s Radhe had taken the hybrid route and the collection was disappointing to say the least. Ananya Panday starrer Kaali Peeli also opted for PPV but the success was limited as the concept was quite fresh at that time.
