Sakshi Tanwar Talks About Evolution Of The Mother Narrative: “Viewers Are Now Seeing The Various Facets & Dimensions”

Actress Sakshi Tanwar will be seen playing a submissive woman who rises to power in politics after witnessing the brutal murder of her daughter in Netflix’s upcoming crime-thriller series My.

She shares, “We have mostly seen screen moms as ‘loving and kind’ or ‘tough and domineering’. Viewers are now witnessing different facets and dimensions of the motherhood experience especially after the advent of OTT. Huh.”

“It’s a great time to be an actor and play such layered characters because now we really get to explore every aspect of a mother’s character, which was hidden for so long.”

Elaborating on how he finally did it’maiSakshi further added, “I auditioned for this show through a mock shoot, back in December 2019, for some of the toughest scenes in the series.

“It was an unmistakable expression of what I was feeling on the spot. After that, Atul (Mongia) sir and I did some intense workshops to understand how in sync we were and what could happen with our collaboration. Good luck. From then on, she felt that I was a good fit for the character of ‘Shil’ and that’s how I landed in my first Netflix Original Series.

Co-directed by Atul Mongia and Anshai Lal, the series stars actor Sakshi Tanwar as the protagonist ‘Shil’. Netflix’s ‘My’ only on April 15.

Witness Earlier, Tahira Kashyap had announced her film Sharmaji Ki Beti. The film is a multi-generational comedy-drama about the modern, middle-class female experience. The film stars Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher. The film gives a glimpse into the lives of urban women, all with the common surname of Sharma.
