With a budget of around Rs 200 crore, Samrat Prithviraj is struggling to earn money with every passing day. Looking at its poor performance, it looks like the Akshay starrer might have to complete its theatrical run this week itself.
According to trade analysts, Samrat Prithviraj saw an overall occupancy of 25 per cent on June 10, June 12. The film reportedly managed to rake in just over Rs 3 crore in a day. The domestic box office collection of Akshay starrer is now Rs 62.30 crore. It is expected that the film will wrap up its lifetime business to around Rs 65 crore.
Reportedly, several circuits of the film are being canceled and flushed due to zero occupancy to make way for commercially viable shows of other films. It opened in cinemas on June 3, where it clashed with two films from different regions – the trilingual Major and Akhil Bhartiya starring Vikram. Kamala hasan, Fahad Fasilo And Vijay Sethupathi,
While both Major and Vikram continue to register growth in their collections, Emperor Prithviraj is singled out by cinematographers despite its grandeur and scale. It is Akshay Kumar’s second consecutive commercial film after Bachchan Pandey, which collected Rs 49.98 crore in India and Rs 9.11 crore overseas, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 68.61 crore.
The film will reportedly get an early OTT premiere on Amazon Prime Video four weeks after its theatrical release, in an effort to make up for its losses.
