Shedding more light on the making of the show, a statement from the makers said, “Though details are under wraps, not surprising as Bhansali has always chosen to work privately and passionately until he takes it to the world.” A massive set of around 1,60,000 sq ft has been constructed for the series, reveals a source. The director is personally looking into the tiniest of details. From the looks, to the intricacies on set, to the art design, to the lighting, with every scene hope to capture a different visual vignette.
Heeramandi features an ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari among others. The show will be streamed on Netflix this year. The story is set in the pre-partition era.
During the poster launch of Heeramandi earlier this year, Bhansali spoke with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos on the need to be careful while making a historical in a country like India. He said, ‘When you are making a historical film in our country, you need to be careful. So yes, you need to get your facts right. And that’s where my research ends because most of it is fiction. Much of this is how I view the period. It’s been done but it hasn’t been detailed enough because I find the research too boring. I, as a filmmaker, don’t set out to make a documentary that I want it to be accurate.
