The love story of Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali is known to many as they were one of the first ‘It’ couples of Bollywood. In a recent interview, the Kapoor star’s second wife, Neela Devi talked about their children Aditya and Kanchan Kapoor and revealed the reason behind not choosing to have her children with the legendary actor. After the death of his first wife Geeta in 1965, Shammi Kapoor married Neela Devi in 1969.

Neela Devi, who belongs to a royal family, recalled her days with late actor Shammi Kapoor and talked about her marriage in an interview with ETimes. During this, she also discussed the reason behind not choosing motherhood. Neela Devi revealed that she was very close to her sister’s children and recalled an incident that prompted her to take this decision. Neela Devi had once gone to her sister’s house with Shammi Kapoor and was playing with her children when they came upon her lap. When they return home, Shammi expresses her desire to share the same bond with her children, Aditya and Kanchan.
“He didn’t say anything at that time, but when we came home, he just said one sentence ‘I will be happiest that day when I see Kanchan and Aditya in your arms’,” Neela Devi said. He further said that this was the moment when he decided not to have children of his own. However, she insists that Aditya and Kanchan grow up very close to her and love her, and now consider her as their mother. “That day I decided that I would see to it that they become my real children and they have not let me down. They both have been amazing. The respect, love and care he showed towards me was worth it. Everything was worth it. I don’t regret not once that I didn’t do it…” he added.
Neela Devi also said that ‘it was 100 per cent’ her decision adding that her in-laws had many questions when she broke the news to them. She also said that Shammi Kapoor kept requesting her to reconsider the decision but she never wanted to. Neela Devi concludes by saying that she is satisfied with her decision as she shares the same maternal bond with Geeta’s children Aditya and Kanchan.
