Ram Gopal Varma is one of the most celebrated filmmakers of Indian cinema with a career spanning over three decades. However, with great success comes great criticism, and Varma has faced a fair amount of backlash for some of his films. Recently, Anupam Mittal of Shark Tank India fame and Shaadi.com founder revealed that he was involved in the film as a sponsor. Not only this, but he also recalled watching it with lead actor Amitabh Bachchan and director Ram Gopal Varma. It all happened during his chat with Anupama Chopra on the All About Movies podcast. Anupam expressed that he was a fan of Bachchan’s films while growing up, but lost interest in Bollywood during the 90s when comedy films by Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor dominated the industry.
Speaking further, Mittal asserted, “In the early 2000s, I saw a small window where a lot of good things started happening in India. Ramu started making films, and we did some work with him, in fact, his film Ramu Ke Sholay, I forgot the title… The first game we launched in Mauj Mobile was that, and we sponsored the film.
When the conversation progressed, Anupam was told Fire was “awesome”, and he agreed. He said, “It was. I actually saw it with Mr. Bachchan and Ramu, all three of us sitting together.” He concluded by saying, “Well, all you could do was watch each other.” Look around and say, ‘Good job’. I could see that Mr. Bachchan had absolutely zero expression on his face, I think he knew it. But never mind, it’s a creative job, nobody wants to make a flop film.”
