Thursday’s 100th episode young sheldon Feather CBS The show’s longevity turned out to be less and more about how the Cooper children are entering adulthood. Here, Co-Producer and Executive Producer Steven Molaro Addresses important plot points of the episode, including Missy’s telling remarks about Sheldon’s sexuality and whether Georgie is ready to be a father.
Deadline: Since it was the 100th episode, what was going through your mind? Were you like, ‘We have to grow up?’ and get the preceding characters big bang theory,
Steven Molaro In fact, it was the opposite. We didn’t want to force any sort of quote for a particular episode without the quotes as the number was 100. We really just wanted to come up with an episode that we were excited to write and not constrained by the fact that we were celebrating. A number I think most viewers don’t even care about.
DEADLINE Sheldon’s friend Paige is having a tough time in college. What does this story arc mean for Sheldon?
molaro Peggy (McKenna Grace) and Sheldon (Ian Armitage) Go back. They’re both equally smart, but she’s getting more trouble by his side through her parents’ divorce, which she blames herself in the previous episode. And now in this episode, it is a problem for them in college. Sheldon loves to gain a little perspective about his own experience only through another person he knows who is in a similar situation.
Deadline Sheldon had a good chat with his sister Missy. While she’s in his dorm room, he’s trying to figure out ways to entertain Peggy, so he asks his sister for one of his sassy magazines. (Missy’s response: “I knew it! OK, I’m good with it. But don’t tell Dad.”) Is she starting to believe her brother is gay?
molaro That’s the idea. I think Missy (Raegan Reward) has spent a little time trying to understand who her brother is and what her sexuality might be…
DEADLINE This is the first direct reference to Sheldon’s sexuality, isn’t it?
molaro Yes. I think a lot is happening in this current season. Ian and Raegan started the show at the age of 9 and are now young adults. They are incredible actors so we can explore more mature moments in the story.
DEADLINE It’s a very heavy moment, when Georgie (Montana Jordan) learns he might be a father. First, what is the age of consent in Texas?
molaro No laws are being broken. It’s not illegal. It’s just a mess.
DEADLINE So this is a story that’s going to have some legs?
molaro Yes, this story continues till the end of the season.
Deadline Now What About Meemaw (Annie Potts)? Are she and Dale going to get back together anytime soon?
molaro I don’t know what’s going to happen. I can tell you that Craig T. Nelson (Dale), who we love and adore, is not leaving the show. He is deeply involved in the story this time as well. George Sr. is working for them at the Sporting Good store. So even though Dale and Mimou are not a couple at the moment, we have no intention of letting him go.
