Sideshow, Janus Films Take North American Rights For Cannes 2022 Title ‘The Eight Mountains’

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Italian author Paolo Cognetti, the work follows the life-long friendship of two men of very different backgrounds against the backdrop of a remote valley in Italy’s mountainous Aosta Valley region. One is a city boy, the other the last child of a forgotten hill village.

In adulthood, the pair go their separate ways but destiny brings them together again at their childhood playground and they discover what it means to be true friends for life.

The Italian-language feature has been produced by Mario Giannani and Lorenzo Gangarosa at Rome-based Fremantle subsidiary Wildside in collaboration with Belgium’s Rufus and Menuetto, France’s Pyramid Pictures, and Italy’s Vision Distribution, UK’s Elastic and Sky.

Vision Distribution is handling the international sales and Italian release. Pyramid will release in France.

Van Groeningen and VanderMeersch said, “We have found the perfect home for our film and know this story will breathe air into the lives of people around the world.”

The film starred Luca Marinelli and Alessandro Borghi along with Filippo Timi, Elena Litti and Elisabetta Mazullo.

The deal was negotiated by CAA Media Finance and Vision Distribution on behalf of the filmmakers along with Janus Films and Sideshow.
