‘Summer Of Soul’ Producer Blasts Chris Rock Over “Four White Guys” Joke During Oscar Presentation

Oscar winning producer Joseph Patel Immediately after accepting the award for Best Documentary Feature, he shared his experience from Sunday night. Will Smith slap presenter Chris Rock across the face. In a long Twitter thread, Summer of Souls (Or, When the Revolution can’t be broadcast…) Producers called Smith’s actions “selfish” but reserved harsh criticism for Rock, who they say was “an absolute f***ing dick.”

When The Rock announced the winner in the category, it was a Searchlight picture directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, featuring Thompson and the “four white guys”. Patel, of South Asian descent, said on Twitter, “What exactly is ***?????? The reason I’m so furious is because I was so proud to be one of only a handful of South Asians to ever win an Oscar in the history of this award. ,

He continued, “I’m angry. Angry at Will Smith. Angry at Chris Rock. Angry for me. Angry for Ahmed. Angry for my fellow filmmakers. I went back home to New York last night and watched the ceremony on my DVR.” And didn’t have the stomach to see it. I probably never will. Thanks, Chris – you full f***ing dick.”

Patel previously wrote that he was “drunken with joy” since winning the Oscar, but took “a few days to process everything” and went on to describe the events.

“Once we realized that the Chris Rock/Will Smith conversation was a little off, everything turned upside down.
