Unique: Athens-based audiovisual group tanveer is expanding its business into world sales of local language content, starting with an auspicious sign EFM,
The new operation will be led by Tanveer Senior Vice President Arujia Khan and Executive Ileana Eliopoulos, both of whom will be on the ground in Berlin.
So far, Tanveer has been primarily focused on producing at home and buying the rights for his home territory Greece as well as satellite weapons in Turkey, India and the Middle East.
Inaugural sales slate includes epic 32-episode historical drama series red RiverCommemorating the Ottoman persecution of the Greek community living in the region of Pontus in northeastern Anatolia in the early 20th century.
Directed by veteran Greek director Manousos Manousakis, the show is adapted from the novel of the same name by Charis Tsirkinidis. The $4M production has been described as the most expensive in the history of Greek television.
There’s also a mini-series slated SmyrnaExploring the events surrounding the Turkish occupation of the Greek city of Smyrna in 1922, during the Greek-Turkish War of 1919–1922.
The four-part drama, produced by Tanveer Films, is a spin-off of the 2022 film of the same name, which was released in North America by Fathom Events last December across 700 screens.
International artists include Daphne Alexander, Mimi Denisi, Rupert Graves, Katerina Geronikolou, Burak Hakki, Susan Hampshire, Leonidas Kakoris, Jane Lapotière and Christos Stergioglu.
It is produced by Dionysis Samiotis with executive producers Joseph Samman and Mimi Denisi.
Further titles included the romantic-comedy #gowjennywhich is the first title on the development board announced Last summer between Tanveer and Saudi Arabian content company Arabia Pictures.
British-Egyptian star Amir El-Masry, whose credits include limbo, Industrynetflix Crown and Jessica Hausner club zeroPlays the role of a man who falls madly in love but cannot act on his feelings due to a spell cast on him.
The feature was released across the Middle East and North America last November and has just launched in the UK. It is set for release in Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium and Austria during the first quarter of 2023.
Further titles include Lebanese comedy C-section About two pregnant women from different social classes who reluctantly share the same hospital room. It is due to hit UK cinemas this March.
The company is also looking to strike new deals on the 2019 film. EftihiyaAbout Eftheia Papagiannopoulos, the famous lyricist of Greece.
Produced by Tanveer Films, it is the fifth highest-grossing Greek film of all time.
