What is the latest?
This is a very sensitive subject which needs to be handled with care. Director Sudipto Sen has the right intentions. The heart is in the right place and the film manages to evoke a sense of trauma and fear that connects one with the characters. Adah Sharma arguably shines the most in the film. One can easily say that this is one of the best performances of his career so far. She gets into the skin of Shalini and gives a heart touching performance. From her Malayalam accent to the innocence of her character – Adah Sharma has done a good job. The other girls try their best to support the film with their good acting. The film engages from the very beginning, with some gory scenes that give goosebumps. There are many touching scenes in the film which will be remembered for many days.
what is not
Some scenes are quite gory and it can be difficult to just sit and watch. While most scenes dealt with the subject with sensitivity, some of the dialogue was too farfetched to be uttered by a human. The background score of the film does not match with the theme of the film as it does not fit well with the mood of The Kerala Story. Although the film claims to be based on true events, it does not give a timeline of when these events occurred, blurring the line between reality and fiction.
BL decision
The story of Kerala is not for the faint hearted. The film deals with a very complex subject and it should be noted that it can be very disturbing to many. If seen without any bias, it is a provocative film.
