Hollywood release Top Gun: Maverick has opened at a much lower rate than expected. It was never going to get a double digit response as it is not quite an event film. In fact, even the upcoming movies from the biggest franchise Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible, have done well in India, not excellent. Hence, no one expected that the sequel of ’80s Top Gun would hit India. One such example of a sequel that came after a huge hiatus was Ghayal: Once Again which released more than 25 years after Ghayal, and here we’re talking about a film that has even more It took time and came after three and a half decades.
Still, someone expected to open around 50 million As for the aviation film Top Gun: Maverick, given the credentials involved and release on premium proprieties including IMAX. However, this did not turn out to be the case as the numbers were just around 2 crore*, In fact, despite being a huge film, the collections are less than some of Bollywood’s disappointments lately.
The good news is that the Top Gun: Maverick report is very positive and should ensure a decent bounce over the weekend. If there was a more aggressive promotion and marketing campaign for Thin layer, the numbers could have been even better. If one adds the preview show which was held on Wednesday and released selectively on Thursday, then the film is currently 4 crore*Which is fair if one considers the fact that Saturday and Sunday are yet to come.
*Estimate. Waiting for the final number.
