Some time ago, Alia Bhatt’s Manyavar’s advertisement did not go down well with the netizens who reprimanded him for using the word ‘Kanyaman’ in the advertisement. Well, this was not the first time, something like this has come on the radar of netizens. Back in 2015, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan featured a malnourished child with dark skin for an advertisement for Kalyan Jewelers and it did not go down well with activists who termed it as racist and offensive.
Child rights groups were outraged and activists started cursing the advertisement of Kalyan Jewellery.
A day after the ad went viral, activists wrote an open letter to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and lashed out at her for supporting a ‘racist’ ad. Kalyan Jewelers issued an apology on its Facebook page and wrote, “The creative aim was to present royalty, timeless beauty and elegance. However, if we have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of any individual or organization, we deeply regret it. “We have begun the process of withdrawing this creative from our campaign.”
The ad featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sitting majestically on a recliner decorated with heavy ornaments and a black malnourished boy holding an umbrella over his head.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also released a statement after reacting to the ad, which read, “The final layout of the ad is entirely the prerogative of the creative team for a brand. However, will forward your article as an approach that can be taken into consideration by the creative team of a professional working on the brand communication scene. “
Let’s take a look at the ad here:
Kalyan Jewelers later had to withdraw the advertisement.
