Anurag Kashyap is often compared to Quentin Tarantino for their similarities as filmmakers. They both have a unique point of view when it comes to their films, and they are not afraid to take aim at each other. In fact, the AK Vs AK actor didn’t hesitate before clearly calling out Amitabh Bachchan and starting the nepotism debate. He pointed out the favoritism in Bollywood, almost two decades ago, much before Kangana Ranaut made her debut in the industry!
Chittagong was released in 2012 and starred Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rajkumar Rao in lead roles. The film was directed by Bedabrata Penn and was a historical war drama and based on the Chittagong Rebellion in British-ruled India.
Interestingly, Chittagong was earlier supposed to release around 2010. This year the film Khelein Hum Ji Jaan Se starring Abhishek Bachchan was released and it was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and had the same theme. According to Anurag Kashyap, apparently it was Amitabh Bachchan who postponed the release of KHJJS to ensure that his son’s film released first.
A Reddit page shared a post which claimed that Anurag Kashyap shared a post on his blog where he attacked Amitabh Bachchan for allegedly messing with the release date of Chittagong. He wrote, “Look at Chittagong, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se, a very good film on the same subject.. 1/8 times the cost, far better actors and tremendous passion… The makers worked on this because of a phone call. decided to do. Someone’s phone call, because that person was trying desperately to save his son’s career… Welcome to Bollywood, where the hard work, passion, ability and talent of the person you are the son takes a toll. KHJJS came and went, now what.”

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, he said, Amitabh Bachchan Commenting on the issue, he said, “It is wrong and baseless and I do not want to dignify this indecent remark by commenting on it.” Director Bedabrata Penn tried to settle the controversy and according to Hindustan Times, he said, “Anurag is known to be a very outspoken and fearless person. I am very honored that people like him and Vishal Bhardwaj have contributed behind the film. The last thing I want is controversy. Some time ago I lost my 16 year old son and now my priority is my 12 year old son. I want people to come and see Chittagong. Play Hum Jee Jaan Se Aane Aur Gone. The story is yet to be told.”
