We have often heard how big stars are being roped in by producers to make films commercially viable. Sadly, veteran actor and politician Raj Babbar has also faced such instances not once but many times. He once talked about being replaced by Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor in films and below is all you need to know.

Raj, who made his debut in the late 1970s, acted in several films and produced amazing performances. However, the actor once recalled two incidents where he was replaced by Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, who were actually huge stars in Bollywood at the time. In 1982’s Shakti, Raj was replaced by Bachchan. Shashi took his place in Namak Halal.

In 2016, while talking to India TV, Raj Babbar had told, “It’s true. I used to do plays in Delhi and Salim-Javed (screenwriter duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) picked me up from here. My screentest was shown to Dilip Kumar sahab (who played Amitabh’s father in the film). Ramesh Sippy was the director. I was selected. But due to some commercial reasons, I was dropped from the film.”

However, Raj Babbar did not complain as Amitabh Bachchan was a big star and he was a newbie in the industry. Speaking about the salt being converted to Halal, he had said, “Sir, such accidents keep happening to me. Whatever I should have got, someone else used to snatch it. But I will not take it away. (These accidents happen to me a lot. Whatever I wanted, someone would take away from me. Well, not at all).

On the work front, the veteran actor was last seen in a web series titled ‘Dil Bekraar’, which released in 2021.
