It was during the Hollywood Reporter’s actresses roundtable in 2019 that the actresses included: Jennifer Lopez, Lupita Nyong’o, Laura Dern, Awkwafina, Renee Zellweger with Johansson. During the same table discussion, the 37-year-old actress opened up about her career and told her own story on it.
Scarlett Johansson said, “I think when I was working in my early 20s and even in my late teens/early 20s, I felt like I got typecast somehow. I was very hyper-s*xualized. Which, I think, seemed fine to everyone at the time. It was another time. Even though it wasn’t part of my own narrative, it probably worked for me in the industry. Was prepared by a group of friends.”
Scarlett Johansson continued, “And I think it worked then, but it was really hard for me trying to figure out how to get out of being a simple or the other woman, because it was ever It was not something I had intended.”
