Speaking to Hindustan Times, Yami said, “It is really unfortunate, people have lost their lives. It’s not like you ever imagined… It’s really painful. There are no words that can heal that wound. But I hope that necessary steps will be taken to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else on this scale.
She added, “It is disheartening to see those videos of the conditions caused by the rain, and I really cannot believe some of them are real. But the people there have to be prepared now to avoid it in future. This is what nature is telling us, it is red alert. This is an indication that something needs to be done at various levels and we are all equally responsible.”
When asked about his family and friends who live in Himachal Pradesh and how they are coping with the situation amid the floods, he said, “They are away from the riverine area. What I’m talking about is nothing that people don’t already know about. Climate change is the first and foremost cause, the temperature is changing, there is more moisture, hence more rainfall. Now there are multi-storied buildings on the banks of the river from the point of view of tourism. There are many reasons that made it what it is now. Nature has given us something beautiful, we have to maintain its purity and peace which you always associate Himachal. Make any number of rules and regulations, but it is also on us. Everyone wants professional progress in life, but we have to strike a balance without disturbing the original nature of this land.
On the work front, Yami’s upcoming films include fanfare And oh my god 2, The latter is set for theatrical release on August 11.
